Musical diversity fosters creative. It is in this vein that Scott has spent his career, searching for music to make his own.

A lifelong musician, Scott gained his earliest musical experiences growing up on Long Island, New York. Going on to study music at Roanoke College in Virginia, the trumpet and guitar pulled him in increasingly opposed directions: studying classical and jazz performance while also playing guitar for local rock acts.

For the next six years, Scott maintained one of the busiest schedules for a trumpet player in Southwest Virginia. As founder of the Big Lick Brass Band and the Virginia Folk-Jazz Trio, Scott cut his teeth as a composer, arranger and bandleader headlining at clubs throughout Virginia including Martin’s Downtown (Roanoke, VA), the Lantern (Blacksburg, VA) the Jazz Street Grill (Lynchburg, VA). As an freelance performer, Scott appeared and/or recorded with Abbey Road Live!, Sol Creech, the Seed, Electric Chameleon and many more. Scott has performed the Hindemith Sonata, Hummel Concerto, and Antheil’s Sonata for Trumpet and Piano. In 2005 he composed and performed Something Beautiful for Trumpet and Computer.

Returning to New York in 2010, Scott has had the great fortune to perform with (among others) Jimmy Heath’s Queens Jazz Orchestra, Pendulum Swings, Glen White and Victor Rendon. Scott has performed in the pit orchestra of over two dozen musicals. Scott continues to lead his own groups including a trio, quintet, sextet and big band for which he acts as music director and arranger.

As a composer and arranger, Scott has produced numerous arrangements for his own groups as well as Etcetera, Alix Jacques & the Afro-Jazz Ensemble, theYes/And Project, and The Queens Art Ensemble

In 2012, Scott recieved his MA in Jazz Performance from the Aaron Copland School of Music (Queens College) where he studied with such greats as Michael P. Mossman, Antonio Hart, David Berkman and Jeb Patton.

As an instructor, Scott has instructed hundreds of students on a half dozen instruments, primarily on Trumpet, Guitar and Bass. He has been a teaching artist for Holy Cross High School, The Louis Armstrong House Museum and The Corona Youth Music Project. Since 2009 Scott has managed and taught for The New York Music School. Favoring a practical approach to music, Scott’s students have led sections, won awards, played in the New York All-State Band, and most importantly performed throughout Virginia and New York.
